What Does Tree Removal Cost in 2026?

"What does it cost to fell a tree?" is the most common question we get. And the honest answer is: it depends. A small rowan on an open lot is a quick job, while a mature oak next to a villa roof can take a full day with climbing, rigging and sectional felling. The difference is not that we charge differently, it is that jobs take different amounts of time and require different equipment.

Here we go through what affects the price, how we assess different tree sizes, and how the RUT deduction makes half the labor cost disappear directly on the invoice.

How we assess a tree removal job

All quotes start with a free site visit where we measure, assess and go through the conditions. Here are the categories we work with:

Smaller trees (under 8 metres)

Rowan, plum, apple trees and similar smaller species. These can usually be handled with ground felling on an open lot. The job goes quickly, rarely requires specialist equipment and causes minimal impact on your garden.

Medium-sized trees (8 to 15 metres)

Birch, pine, ash and lime in typical villa size. Here the location matters most: on an open lot we can ground fell, but if the tree stands next to a house or line, sectional felling from platform or climbing is needed, which takes more time and requires more safety work.

Large trees (15 to 20 metres)

Oak, lime, elm and pine that have reached full height. These jobs almost always require sectional felling, often with climbing and rigging. The time requirement is significant and the work method is more advanced, particularly in densely built areas like Limhamn, Skanör or Falsterbo.

Very large trees (above 20 metres)

Mature oak, storm-damaged poplar or other really tall trees. These require climbing felling with full rigging, sometimes also a crane. These are full-day jobs that require our entire team and extensive safety planning.

Stump grinding

The extent of stump grinding depends on the stump's diameter and ground conditions. In some places in Skåne, for example Limhamn's limestone bedrock, the rock can limit grinding depth. We always assess this during the site visit.

What affects the price?

Seven factors drive the quote up or down:

1. Height and trunk circumference

Larger trees require more work, more equipment and more time. A mature oak at 22 metres can require a full day of climbing, rigging and lowering. An 8 m rowan is done in an hour.

2. Free space

Does the tree stand on an open lot? Then we can ground fell, which is the fastest method. Does it stand near a villa roof, gutter or neighbour? Then sectional felling from climbing or platform is required, which means more extensive work.

3. Species

Deciduous trees with dense trunk volume (oak, lime, elm, ash) take longer to buck, chip and haul than airier species (birch, willow). Price is adjusted accordingly.

4. Access

Narrow street without parking, no room for a chip truck, need for a lift crane or skylift -- all affect logistics and therefore the price. Densely built Skanör or central Limhamn often have access challenges.

5. Marklov and permits

Vellinge kommun (Falsterbo, Skanör), Malmö stad (parts of Limhamn) and Lomma kommun (Bjärred) often require marklov for felling of larger trees. We apply on your behalf (free service when we take the job), but the municipality's fee, if applicable, remains.

6. Stump

Do you want the stump to stay or to go? The cost of stump grinding depends on the stump's size and ground conditions. On Limhamn's limestone bedrock we sometimes cannot grind deeper than 15-20 cm below grade, since bedrock is close.

7. Haul-away and chipping

We include haul-away and chipping in the fixed price, but if you want to keep the firewood we can buck to your preferred length and stack for you. It goes faster and positively affects the price.

Fixed price, always

We provide fixed-price quotes after a site visit. Never hourly billing for tree removal. The reason is simple: hourly gives no control over total cost. Something unexpected on site (rotten wood, hidden line, marklov application) and the hourly rate swings. Fixed price means we take the risk, not you.

In rare cases (storm-damaged tree over a house, we do not know exactly how it sits) we can offer hourly with a cap. Then you also know your maximum.

RUT, half the price directly on the invoice

Since 2021, tree removal has been fully RUT-eligible. 50% off the labor cost, directly on the invoice, up to 75,000 SEK per person per year (150,000 per couple).

What is included in RUT:

  • The actual felling (ground or sectional)
  • Climbing, rigging, rope technique
  • Bucking the trunk to firewood
  • Haul-away and chipping on site
  • Stump grinding (per Skatteverket guidance)

What is not included:

  • Planting a new tree as replacement (not RUT-eligible at all)
  • Material cost if applicable (rare in tree work)

How to get a correct quote

Always ask for:

  1. Written quote with fixed price (not verbal)
  2. Specification of what is included: felling, haul-away, stump, marklov
  3. F-tax certificate from the company (security for you as customer)
  4. Liability insurance verified
  5. Time window: when can the job be done?

We always provide quotes with all five points clearly specified.

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers to what we get asked every week. If yours is not here, just call, we are happy to help.

  1. 01What is a reasonable price for removing a medium-sized tree?
The cost of a medium-sized tree depends on several factors: the tree's height and trunk circumference, whether it can be ground felled on an open lot or requires sectional felling next to a house, access for machinery, and whether stump grinding is included. A quote after a site visit gives you a fixed price tailored to your specific conditions. The RUT deduction then halves the labor cost directly on the invoice.
  2. 02What makes tree removal more expensive?
Seven factors drive the price up: 1) Height above 15 m. 2) Sectional felling next to house or line. 3) Climbing felling when a platform cannot reach. 4) Tree species with large trunk volume (oak, lime, elm). 5) Limited access (narrow street, no room for a chip truck). 6) Marklov application if required. 7) Stump grinding in hard or rocky ground.
  3. 03Is hourly or fixed price better for tree removal?
Fixed price, always. Hourly billing for tree removal gives no security and can balloon if something turns up on site. All our quotes are fixed price after a site visit, no 'if-then' surcharges, no surprises on the invoice. For complex cases (storm-damaged tree over a house) we may offer hourly with a cap, so you also know your maximum.
  4. 04What does RUT actually do?
RUT on tree removal gives 50% off the labor cost, directly on the invoice, up to 75,000 SEK per person per year (150,000 per couple). Skatteverket pays its share to the company. You only pay half the amount without having to apply yourself. Material cost (rare in felling) is not part of the RUT discount.
  5. 05How much can I save with RUT on tree removal?
With 50% RUT, your labor cost is halved directly on the invoice, up to the maximum of 75,000 SEK per person per year. Many of our customers maximise the RUT cap over a year by combining tree work with other garden services like lawn mowing, hedge trimming and leaf removal.
