Tree Removal in Skåne

Trees are a big part of what makes a villa lot beautiful, but once in a while a tree needs to come down. Either because it has become diseased, is too large for its place, hangs dangerously over the house or road, or simply shades out the whole garden. We remove trees across southwestern Skåne, from single fruit trees on small lots in Bunkeflostrand to mature deciduous trees next to villa roofs in Bjärred, old willows along roads in Vellinge, and exposed pines on the Falsterbo peninsula.

When does a tree need to come down?

Not every tree should be removed. We always start with the question: can it be saved? A careful pruning, a two-season rejuvenation, or a safety cut on a risk branch is often enough. See our guide tree removal or pruning for how to decide.

The tree typically should come down when:

  • It is dead or dying. Ash dieback and Dutch elm disease have hit thousands of trees in Skåne. An affected tree often cannot be saved and quickly becomes a safety hazard once the rot has set in.
  • It is too close to the house. Roots lifting drainage, branches scraping gutters, canopy blocking sun from roof tiles and solar panels.
  • It is storm-damaged. Snapped crowns, leaning trunk after root lift, cracks in the bark after a lightning strike, all reasons to take it down before the next storm does the job for you.
  • It blocks construction. Extension, pool or carport that cannot be placed without removing the tree.
  • It is the wrong species in the wrong spot. Fast-growing willow or poplar planted too close to a wall has soon become a problem.

How a tree removal works with us

1. Free inspection

We come out, measure the tree, check clearance to house, lines and property boundary, assess rot status, and plan felling direction. While we are there we also check whether marklov is required in your municipality, we make that check against the detaljplan so you do not have to think about it.

2. Fixed-price quote

You get a written quote with fixed price, defined felling method (ground or sectional), schedule, what happens with timber and stump, and the RUT deduction calculated straight away. No hourly rates, no "if-then" surcharges.

3. Safe felling on site

Depending on space and species:

  • Ground felling: When there is ample room we use traditional forestry technique with a hinge cut and controlled drop direction. Safest and fastest.
  • Sectional felling from climbing: Our climber ascends in a harness on rope (approved protective equipment), cuts the tree in pieces from the top, and lowers each section under control. Required when the tree cannot fall whole without hitting house, roof, line or neighbour.
  • Sectional felling from a platform: For medium-height trees (up to 18 m) in open ground we use a mobile platform, faster and safer than climbing for the right situation.
  • Crane or skylift for big trees: For very tall or risky removals we partner with a crane truck or skylift, often that is what solves the otherwise impossible.

4. Cleanup, timber and stump

We chip the brush on site, buck the trunk to your preferred firewood length (usually 30-50 cm) and stack it for you, or haul everything off. The stump we either leave, grind 15-25 cm below grade for relawning, or fully remove with a stump grinder. All material handling is RUT-eligible when it is part of the work on your lot.

Sectional felling, what we are most often called in for

When the tree stands close to something valuable, our expertise is what is needed. Common examples:

  • Mature oak over a villa roof: Sectional is the only option. Climber from above, rope-lowered limbs and trunk sections.
  • Lime tree against the wall in Bjärred or Limhamn: The garden's central tree that has grown into the house, requires sectioning and rigging.
  • Pine (Pinus sylvestris) next to a power line on Falsterbo peninsula: Notification to the grid operator, short sections, controlled lowering.
  • Diseased ash or elm in a row-house area: Limited room in every direction, sectional standard.

We have our own equipment and do not take jobs we are not competent for. For very complex cases (>20 m or special risk profile) we partner with experienced arborists.

Marklov, shore protection and permits

Before we touch the chainsaw we check the municipality's rules:

  • Detaljplan areas: Many municipalities require marklov for felling above a certain trunk circumference, often 80-100 cm at breast height (1.3 m above ground). It applies especially to protected species or large solitary trees.
  • Shore protection (Miljöbalken ch. 7): Within 100-300 m of lake or sea, dispensation from länsstyrelsen is often required even on your own land.
  • Nature reserves and Natura 2000: Stricter rules, dispensation needed.
  • Lots without special protection: Felling is normally free, but check if your house is in an area with områdesbestämmelser.

We apply for marklov on your behalf when needed (free add-on with our work), you only cover the municipality's fee if one applies.

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers to what we get asked every week. If yours is not here, just call, we are happy to help.

  1. 01Is tree removal eligible for the RUT deduction in 2026?
Yes. Tree removal on a private property is RUT-eligible and gives 50% off the labor cost, applied directly on the invoice, up to 75,000 SEK per person per year (150,000 per couple). The labor itself is what counts: felling, climbing, sectional cutting, bucking, and cleanup. Haul-away of timber and chips is RUT-eligible when it is a natural part of the work on your lot. Stump grinding is also RUT-eligible per Skatteverket guidance. Material purchases and planting new trees are not included.
  2. 02Do I need a permit (marklov) to fell a tree?
It depends on where you live. In areas covered by a detaljplan (municipal zoning), the municipality may require marklov for felling, often above a certain trunk circumference (commonly 80-100 cm at breast height) or for particularly protected species. In shore-protection zones or nature reserves you usually need a dispensation from länsstyrelsen. We check the detaljplan before we cut so you do not risk a fine. Falsterbo peninsula, Skanör, and parts of Limhamn have areas where marklov is required. Standard villa lots without special protection are normally free to fell.
  3. 03How do you safely fell a tree next to a house?
When the tree cannot be dropped whole (not enough clear room toward house, roof, line or neighbour) we use sectional felling. Our climber ascends in a harness on rope, cuts the tree in pieces from the top down, and lowers each section under control on rope and rigging blocks. We cordon off the area below, communicate with ground crew by radio, and always have plan B if a section behaves unexpectedly. All our climbing follows approved protective equipment standards.
  4. 04What does tree removal cost?
Price varies with height, trunk circumference, free space, species and access. The cost is reduced by 50% through the RUT deduction on labor costs, including stump grinding when it is part of the same job. All our prices are fixed-price quotes after a site visit, never hourly billing, never surprise extras on the invoice.
  5. 05Can you fell trees near power lines or on tight lots?
Yes, that is often where we are needed most. We have experience with tight felling next to power and telecom lines, gutters, roof tiles and neighbouring properties. For work within 4 m of a power line we always notify the grid operator first (free service via E.ON or Kraftringen in Skåne). We are registered for F-tax, meaning you as customer never take an employer role.
  6. 06Do you take care of timber, brush and the stump afterwards?
Yes. We buck the trunk to your preferred firewood length and stack it on site if you want the wood, or haul everything away if you want a clean lot. Smaller branches we chip on site. The stump we can leave, grind to 15-25 cm below grade for relawning, or fully remove with a stump grinder. Haul-away and chipping are part of our fixed quote, you never pay extra for the waste.
  7. 07What time of year is best for tree removal?
Tree removal can be done year-round, but practical reasons make autumn and winter (October to March) the most common. The canopy is bare so we see structure clearly, the lawn handles ground impact better with frost, and bird nesting is not a factor. Emergencies (storms, risk trees, diseased trees) we handle year-round, usually within 1-3 days for existing contract customers.
