Tree Removal in Bjärred

Bjärred is one of Lomma kommun's most distinctive places. Large villas on generous lots, old tree-lined avenues, and many mature trees planted when the area was built in the 1960s and 1970s. That is also why we get so many tree-removal enquiries here: the trees have grown larger than anyone foresaw, the ashes are affected by ash dieback, lime tree roots are lifting drainage, and the sun no longer reaches the lawn.

We have removed trees all over Bjärred, from the villa neighbourhoods around Bjärehovsskolan to the boundary toward Borgeby. Here is what actually sets Bjärred apart from other Skåne locations when planning a tree removal.

Lommaslätten is clay, and it shows

Bjärred sits on Lommabukten, but the soil is not sandy as you might think. Most lots stand on deep clay layers, a legacy of ice-age sea beds. Clay soil affects both trees and felling work in three ways:

  1. Root systems become broad but shallow. Mature limes and oaks in Bjärred rarely develop deep tap roots. Instead, the main roots spread horizontally near the surface. That makes root lift in storms common and felling direction extra sensitive.
  2. Ground damage occurs more easily in autumn. When the clay is wet, heavy equipment compacts it. We schedule work windows when frost is in or the soil is dry, often February to March or July to August.
  3. Stump grinding is easier in wet clay, harder in dry. Clay becomes concrete when it dries in July, the grinder works twice as hard. We often schedule stumps right after rain for the best result.

Which trees do Bjärred homeowners most often remove?

Across our last two seasons in Bjärred, five species dominate:

  • Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) affected by ash dieback. We see symptoms on more than half of all ash trees in the area: bare top branches, vigorous water-shoot growth, stem cankers. Diseased ashes are usually beyond saving and become hazardous quickly.
  • Lime (Tilia) that has grown too close to the house and gutters. Lime tolerates hard pruning, but many homeowners choose removal when the tree has started to lift paving or damage the facade.
  • Willow and poplar planted in the 1970s as fast-growing screening, now 18-22 metres tall with weak wood structure.
  • Birch with butt rot under bark, common on birches over 25 years old in Skåne.
  • Willow (Salix) at lot boundaries and along roads, often too large for its place.

Marklov in Lomma kommun: what you need to know

Lomma kommun has detaljplan over most of central Bjärred. In detaljplan areas, the municipality often requires marklov to remove trees with a trunk circumference above 80 cm at breast height (1.3 m above ground), and always for certain protected species or trees marked on the plan map.

Two special rules also apply:

  • Shore protection along Lommabukten: Within 100 m of the shoreline, dispensation from länsstyrelsen is required even for felling on your own lot. The western villa areas of Bjärred are often within this zone.
  • Boundary trees: If the tree stands on the property line, the neighbour's consent is required even when marklov is not.

We do a free check against the detaljplan before quoting. If marklov is required, we apply for you, you only cover the municipality's fee (usually 1,500-3,500 SEK).

Three Bjärred situations we see often

Mature lime against the house wall

One of our most common jobs: a large lime stands 2-4 m from the villa facade, the canopy hangs over the roof, and roots have started to lift paving slabs. Lime can often be saved with hard pruning, but many homeowners choose removal to avoid recurring maintenance. We sectional-fell from climbing, lowering each branch and trunk section on rope.

Diseased ash threatening the boundary

A 14 m ash with three dead top branches leans 8 degrees toward the neighbour's carport. Classic ash-dieback situation. We screen against the neighbour, apply for marklov if required, fell in sections, and buck the trunk to firewood if the customer wants it.

Avenue-planted willows along the road

Willows planted in a row along the street. One has rotted internally and must come down. Since the tree stands on the lot's portion of the road, we coordinate with the municipality's street office, we handle that too.

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers to what we get asked every week. If yours is not here, just call, we are happy to help.

  1. 01Do I need marklov to fell a tree in Bjärred?
In areas covered by Lomma kommun's detaljplan, which covers most of central Bjärred, marklov is often required to fell trees with a trunk circumference above 80 cm at breast height (1.3 m). Within the shore protection zone along Lommabukten you also need dispensation from länsstyrelsen, even on your own lot. We check against the detaljplan before the chainsaw starts, and apply for marklov on your behalf if required.
  2. 02Does the clay soil in Bjärred affect felling?
Yes. Lommaslätten has deep, nutrient-rich clay that gets very wet in autumn and freezes hard in winter. Large trees like oak, beech and lime develop wide but shallow root systems, so we plan ground impact carefully, and stump grinding works best when the soil is moist rather than rock-hard. We schedule with the soil condition in mind.
  3. 03Which trees are most often removed in Bjärred?
Mature limes, oaks, ashes and walnut dominate the older villa areas around Bjärehovsskolan and Borgeby. In the 1980s and 1990s lots in western Bjärred, birch and willow are common. We also see many willows and bird cherries that have outgrown their place. Diseased ash dominates right now, ash dieback has hit Skåne hard since the 2010s.
  4. 04What does tree removal cost in Bjärred?
A typical 8-12 m deciduous tree on an open lot is 3,500-6,000 SEK before RUT. Tight felling next to a roof or fence is 7,000-15,000 SEK. Larger solitary trees over 15 m can exceed 20,000 SEK. Stump grinding is extra (800-2,500 SEK per stump). With RUT, the labor cost is halved directly on the invoice.
  5. 05How fast can you respond to a storm or risk case?
For emergency storm and risk cases in Bjärred we prioritise promptly. Existing contract customers go first. We are based in Lund and Malmö, so we can often be on site quickly for a tree lying across a house or road.
