Garden Maintenance in Bara: Svedala Municipality
Bara has its own history as The Garden Town of Bara (Trädgårdsstaden Bara), built from the 1960s with the explicit planning idea that every house should have a generous garden. The result, sixty years on, is one of the most garden-dense localities in our 15-area service region: 71% of households in Bara live in a villa or row house, the highest share anywhere we work, and the streets are lined with mature plantings that took decades to establish.
Bara gardens vary in character. Some are well-composed older lots with old fruit trees, mature hedges and perennial beds shaped by two or three owners. Others are new villas in Bara Backar with young plantings that need to be shaped now to look right in twenty years. We adapt our care to the property in front of us rather than running a single template across every job, and we are nearby every weekday in season.
What makes Bara distinctive, and how we adapt
The area has several recurring features that shape how we plan visits.
Garden-town heritage. Bara was designed around the idea of generous lots, and the layout still rewards it. Most properties run 600 to 900 m² with substantial lawn area, perimeter hedges that have aged into their final form, and mature fruit trees from the original planting wave. Care has to respect what is already there rather than start over.
Mix of old and new construction. Bara Backar and other new construction in the municipality have grown noticeably over the past ten years, so the housing stock now spans 1960s pioneers through to 2020s infill. We adjust technique to the property age, with gentler methods on older established gardens and more shaping work on younger plantings.
Family-suburb rhythms. Most Bara customers are year-round households with children, school runs, weekend sports and time-demanding professional jobs. Season contracts with a fixed weekday and the same crew work well for that life. Mid-season changes are routine: an extra mow during a wet June, an additional hedge trim ahead of a summer party, an urgent tree visit after a storm.
Inland climate. Bara sits inland from the coast, which gives it slightly colder winters than Vellinge or Lomma, drier summers, and wider temperature swings between seasons. We plan irrigation advice and seasonal timing accordingly: spring start usually mid-April, fall cleanup into early November.
Bara Backar and new construction: startup packages for new owners
Bara Backar and the other new-construction pockets in the municipality have brought a wave of newly-built villa owners who often stand with:
- A newly-built villa
- An unfinished or partly-finished garden
- No prior experience of how often the lawn should be mowed, when the hedge should start being trimmed, which trees should be pruned in which window
- Time pressure: jobs, kids, a house to furnish, a garden that is starting to grow whether they are ready or not
We offer a startup package specifically for these customers:
- Foundational cleanup of the garden, including removal of construction debris, planning of the first mow, and identification of existing plants worth keeping.
- Written care plan showing what gets done when across the season, so a new villa owner understands the rhythm without having to research it.
- First mow included, so you see what the lawn looks like after a professional pass.
- Transition to season contract if you want one. We take over and you stop having to think about it.
The package is genuinely popular in Bara Backar and gives newly-arrived owners a clean start to garden life.
Common assignments in Bara
A few jobs come up repeatedly across the municipality.
The classic Bara season contract. A 700 m² lot with a thuja hedge along two sides, an apple tree in the back and a small front lawn. Mowing every other week May through September, one thuja trim in August, spring and fall cleanup. With RUT-avdraget applied, the labor cost is halved directly on the invoice.
The Bara Backar startup. A newly-built villa with raw lawn, young hedge plants and no plan. Initial cleanup, planting input, first season of regular care, hedge shaping in year one to set the long-term profile.
Old fruit tree restoration. A 60-year-old apple tree in an original 1960s Bara villa, dropping fruit on the patio and shading half the lawn. We plan three seasons of careful crown reduction in the JAS window, starting with dead wood and crossing branches only.
BRF frame contract. A row house terrace of 18 units with a 500 m² shared front lawn, perimeter hedges and a back path. Weekly mowing in season, two hedge trims, leaf raking, winter snow removal as add-on. Monthly invoicing to the board.
Pricing and the RUT-avdrag in Bara
All our services in Bara are eligible for the RUT-avdrag (50% labor tax deduction). For readers new to the Swedish system, the deduction works like this:
- The labor portion of every invoice is automatically discounted by 50%.
- The cap is 75,000 SEK per person per year, or 150,000 SEK per couple in the same household.
- We are registered for F-skatt (registered Swedish business tax), which is the prerequisite for applying the deduction on your behalf. You do nothing administratively; we file the reports with Skatteverket.
- Material costs (soil, plants, gravel) are not RUT-eligible, but for most Bara contracts labor accounts for 85 to 95% of the total.
We always provide a fixed written quote after your free inspection so you know exactly what applies before we start. More on the RUT page.

How to get started
Get in touch by phone or the contact form and we will book a free site visit in Bara. The inspection is at no charge and entirely without obligation. We walk the garden together, listen to your preferences, photograph anything load-bearing for the quote, and send a written fixed-price quote promptly.
We do not start work until you have accepted the quote in writing. For new owners in Bara Backar we offer the startup package as an entry point, which converts naturally into a season contract once the garden is up and running. For BRF boards we do the inspection together with the board and produce a framework contract within a week.
